Croton Bike Week – a time to celebrate cycling, get discounts at local stores, and meet fellow cyclists

Come join our friends in Croton-on-Hudson for Croton Bike Week, a celebration of cycling in a village where folks use their two-wheelers for recreation, commutation, and just plain old getting around town.
Westchester Cycle Club is participating in the week, which kicks off Sunday with WCC’s Golden Apple. On Sat. Sept. 20, we’re holding a multi-level ride, which leaves from Croton-Harmon High School, and will end at Memphis Mae’s BBQ Restaurant, where we’ll sample the spicy ribs and slake our thirst with some Captain Lawrence Liquid Gold. If you ride to the restaurant, you’ll get 10 percent off your bill. See the ride board for details. The B, Bplus and A rides will be along the 50-mile Toughman course.
If you think you are going to come to Memphis Mae’s, register at http://www.westchestercycleclub.org/mywcc/editEvent.php?event=39
Sponsoring the weeklong event is the Croton-on-Hudson Bicycle/Pedestrian Planning Committee, which has been working with the village to encourage children to bike to school, commuters to bike to the train station, and have residents bike to the local market or restaurant.
About 30 Croton merchants this week will be giving discounts to cyclists who ride to their establishments or show that they’ve participated in the Golden Apple or the Toughman Triathlon race on Sept. 21. So keep your wrist band from the Golden Apple to show the merchants you were a participant.
