Sunny Spain good to the French in stage 7 of the Tour de France

July
10

The French teams enjoy sunny Spain on their way to a stage win and Yellow Jersey in the difficult Stage 7 of the Tour de France.
A breakaway group of  nine had a long day off the front and shook up the standings. Brice Feillu of the small Agritubel team won the day with an attack with 5 k to go to win. The surprise of the day is AG2R’s Rinaldo Noccentini taking the yellow jersey by six seconds over Astana’a Alberto Contador who attacked the chasing group with 3 k to the finish and took 21 seconds out of the main chase group.

A larger group of most of the faverits finished 3:47 down including, Lance Armstrong, Levi Leipheimer, Bradley Wiggins, Christian Vande Velde, Tony Martin, Andy and Frank Schleck, Cadel Evans, Denis Menchov,Vladimir Karpets and last year’s winner Carlos Sastre. This list with Cantodor added contains this years winner in Paris.

I wonder what Cadel Evans was thinking on the last climb as he watched his former teammate Popovych churn out the tempo leading the peloton up the last climb for miles. When Popo was  with Lance and Discovery doing just this, but when he move to Silence-Lotto a few years ago to do the same for Evans he never found his form and was a big disappointment to Evans.

Fabian Cancellara finishing 67th on the day 9:16 back and will be pulling off his last Yellow Jersey for this Tour.

Many of the favorites were visited for blood testing this morning before the start of the stage.

More details to come.
